As of June 9, 2012 I will no longer be accepting e-books for review. This is due to the overwhelming
demand of reviews, work and night classes taking up a lot of my spare time. It
is taking me several months to read and post reviews therefore until “my to be
reviewed list” is smaller I will no longer accept any more e-books for review.
I am extremely sorry.

Review: Spirit Bound - A Vampire Academy Novel by Richelle Mead

Spirit BoundDimitri gave Rose the ultimate choice. But she chose wrong…
After a long and heartbreaking journey to Dimitri’s birthplace in Siberia, Rose Hathaway has finally returned to St. Vladimir’s—and to her best friend, Lissa. It is nearly graduation, and the girls can’t wait for their real lives beyond the Academy’s iron gates to begin. But Rose’s heart still aches for Dimitri, and he's out there, somewhere.
She failed to kill him when she had the chance. And now her worst fears are about to come true. Dimitri has tasted her blood, and she knows in her heart that he is hunting her. And if Rose won't join him, he won't rest until he's silenced her...forever

Okay now that I have that off of my chest I think I’m good for now. I think. Boy did Richelle ever rip my heart out and stab it with a stake. I was soo angry at so many different characters for the choices that they made. Like seriously can’t at one person at least be happy? I loved this book for the fact that it made me actually have feelings towards the characters.

Don’t let me anger tell you I don’t love it because I do and I can’t wait for Last Sacrifice. I’ve preordered 2 copies – yep that’s right 2 copies (one is signed and I won’t get it for awhile seeing it will go to California first then to Canada and well I just can’t wait that long). I know, I’m not the only one who can’t wait.

I have so many questions that need answering - Who is going to end up with who? Is anyone going to die? Is there going to be a being battle between the Strigoi and Moroi? Who killed.....? Will Rose get to guard Lissa? I have so many questions! These <15 days are going to kill me.

I really like how Lissa has grown some balls over the past few novels she is finally learning to protect herself and not being the lame vampire – I know she can do better. I love Rose and Adrian’s relationship it makes me laugh and I kind alike them together. I know, you Team Dimitri fans are going to send me hate mail BUT how can you justify what he did?!?!?

WoW: My Soul to Steal

“Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that I am eagerly anticipating.

This weeks WoW is My Soul To Steal by Rachel Vincent.

Trying to work things out with Nash—her maybe boyfriend—is hard enough for Kaylee Cavanaugh. She can’t just pretend nothing happened. But “complicated” doesn’t even begin to describe their relationship when his ex-girlfriend transfers to their school, determined to take Nash back.
See, Sabine isn’t just an ordinary girl. She’s a mara, the living personification of a nightmare. She can read people’s fears—and craft them into nightmares while her victims sleep. Feeding from human fear is how she survives.
And Sabine isn’t above scaring Kaylee and the entire school to death to get whatever—and whoever—she wants.
– Excerpt from Rachel’s Website.

My Soul To Steal will be released January 1, 2011. To learn more about Rachel and her series please visit her website.

Review: Blood Promise - A Vampire Academy Novel by Richelle Mead

blood_promiseRose Hathaway's life will never be the same.
The recent attack on St. Vladimir's Academy devastated the entire Moroi world. Many are dead. And, for the few victims carried off by Strigoi, their fates are even worse. A rare tattoo now adorns Rose's neck, a mark that says she's killed far too many Strigoi to count. But only one victim matters . . . Dimitri Belikov. Rose must now choose one of two very different paths: honoring her life's vow to protect Lissa—her best friend and the last surviving Dragomir princess—or, dropping out of the Academy to strike out on her own and hunt down the man she loves. She'll have to go to the ends of the earth to find Dimitri and keep the promise he begged her to make. But the question is, when the time comes, will he want to be saved?
Now, with everything at stake—and worlds away from St. Vladimir's and her unguarded, vulnerable, and newly rebellious best friend—can Rose find the strength to destroy Dimitri? Or, will she sacrifice herself for a chance at eternal love?
– excerpt from Richelle’s website

What I really enjoyed about this novel was learning more about Dimitri’s past and present. We learn about Dimitri’s family who is very cool I would totally trade in my family to have his (sorry!). I also liked even though it did piss me off, Rose and Dimitri’s “new” relationship. We saw a different side of both of them.

But that doesn’t mean I’m still not pissed off about certain events! Richelle really knows how to play on her readers emotions. Which I find authors are rarely able to do. Which makes Richelle one of my favourites.

Oh and I was totally right about Avery – all I have you say about her is, trust what your gut is telling you about her because I bet you are right.

BTW still extremely pissed off...

You get to pick what I read once a month!

I have decided that I would let you my readers pick what I read once a month. My TBR pile is so big that sometimes I don’t know what to read next. I will leave voting up for a week or two depending on my mood Smile with tongue out. This week with 6 votes I will be reading Firelight by Sophie Jordan.

I will also post some random polls like the current one. It came to me reading about the HP opening weekend numbers and them comparing it to Twilight. So my question to you is If Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow – Part 2 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 were released which one would you go to?

Me being a fan of both will pick Harry Potter without a doubt in my mind. Why? Because I find HP midnight release fans are there for the story not for good looking men taking off their shirts. HP fans are way better behaved than Twilight fans. I have decided that I won’t go to a Twilight midnight release ever again mostly because I hate the tweens screaming every time Launter takes off his shirt. There is no reason to scream and some of us actually want to watch the movie and hear the words! HP fans cry, laugh and most importantly don’t scream until the movie ends with a cliff hanger and we want more!

That is my lil rant for the week Smile

And OMG was it amazing! I also totally yelled “NO!” at the end among people I didn’t know….was also the only once dressed up for the Saturday Noon showing….But that is okay! I’m just an awesome fan like that.

I found it was pretty true to the books. I’ve been fine with all the Harry Potter movies the only thing I wish they didn’t cut was Aunt Petunia’s speech at the beginning and what Dudley had to say. For me that part of the book made me actually like Dudley and Aunt Petunia…but maybe it will be a deleted scene or something.

If you haven’t gone to see it yet you must! I’m trying to get the boyfriend to take me again…it’s not going to well.

Review: Shadow Kiss: A Vampire Academy Novel by Richelle Mead

It’s springtime at St. Vladimir's Academy, and Rose Hathaway is this close to graduation. Since making her first Strigoi kills, Rose hasn't been feeling quite right. She's having dark thoughts, behaving erratically, and worst of all...might be seeing ghosts.

As Rose questions her sanity, new complications arise. Lissa has begun experimenting with her magic once more, their enemy Victor Dashkov might be set free, and Rose's forbidden relationship with Dimitri is starting to heat up again. But when a deadly threat no one saw coming changes their entire world, Rose must put her own life on the line--and choose between the two people she loves most.

OMG! There was tons of interesting stuff to happen in this novel. I was soo happy in Chapter 23 just to have that happiness shattered. I have feelings of anger and sadness.

So far this is by far my favourite in the series. So much happens between all the characters. Lies and secrets are kept and exposed and created tension between the characters. Past characters appear again which brings even more tension to the crew.

I am still furious about what happened at the end book but does it ever make me want to read Blood Promise NOW! So kudos to Richelle for creating a fantastic novel that has made me feel tons of different emotions about.

Review: Frostbite: A Vampire Academy Novel by Richelle Mead

clip_image002Rose Hathaway's got serious guy trouble.  Her gorgeous tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason has a huge crush on her, and she keeps getting stuck in her best friend Lissa's head while she's making out with her boyfriend, Christian.  (So not cool).

Then a massive Strigoi attack puts St. Vladimir's on high alert, and the Academy crawls with Guardians--including the legendary Janine Hathaway...Rose's formidable, long-absent mother.  The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy's not taking any risks.  This year, St. Vlad's annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.

But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only provide the illusion of safety.  When three students run away to strike back against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them.  Only this time, Rose--and her heart--are in more danger than she ever could have imagined...

This one went a little slow for me. I wasn’t totally into Rose’s jealously issues but did things get interesting with the new addition of Adrian, the hot royal who is totally interested in Rose. Like she needed more guy troubles.

I really like the last few chapters of this novel. We got to know more about Rose, Christian, Mia, Mason and Eddie. I really like how all 5 of the worked together in order to achieve their goals. Richelle made me feel the pain that Rose felt throughout the book. My heart ached for her in more than one spot.

Review: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with an unbreakable bond to the earth's magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest and most dangerous vampires--the ones who never die.
The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa's best friend, makes her a Dhampir; she is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making her one of them.
After two years of illicit freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir's Academy, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. Rose will continue her Dhampir education. Lissa will go back to being Queen of the elite Moroi social scene. And both girls will resume breaking hearts.
Fear made Lissa and Rose run away from St. Vladimir's--but their world is fraught with danger both inside and out of the Academy's iron gates. Here, the cutthroat ranks of the Moroi perform unspeakable rituals and their secretive nature and love of the night creates an enigmatic world full of social complexities. Rose and Lissa must navigate through this dangerous world, confront the temptation of forbidden romance, and never once let their guard down, lest the Strigoi make Lissa one of them forever...

I’m glad that one of the ladies in my accounting class recommended this book series to me. I would always pick it up in the store but then I would put it back mostly because of the cover. To me the model looks like Angelina Jolie and I have a HUGE hate on that woman. But once I got over the fact that the model looks like her and the lady that suggested that I would like the series if I like House of Night Series and boy was she right.

Rose is someone I think I would be friends with. She puts up with no bullshit from anyone and will hand out a big can of whoop ass if needed. There is something about Lissa that I don’t care for. I can’t really put my finger on it but she isn’t one of my favourites. Maybe it’s her race or Moroi’s that I dislike. They seem so helpless – they are freaking vampires I think they should be able to hold their own.

There are a lot of hot guys in this novel so there should be at least one guy that every girl would like. I’m partial to Dimitri.

I think that VA it a perfect starting point for the series as we learn some background information about the characters, the school and how the Dhampir/Moroi system works. Richelle did an excellent job of keeping the real villain under wraps. I totally didn’t see it coming.

If you love the House of Night Series I can guarantee that you will like this one way more! I sure did and I’m glad I got over my issues with the cover. I should remember to never judge a book by its cover.

Review: Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder

clip_image001Choose: A quick death and hell or slow poison and hell.

About to be executed for murder, Yelena is offered a reprieve. She'll eat the best meals, have rooms in the palace, and risk assassination by anyone trying to kill the Commander of Ixia. And so Yelena chooses to become a food taster. But the chief of security, leaving nothing to chance, deliberately feeds her Butterfly's Dust, and only by appearing for her daily antidote will she delay an agonizing death from the poison. As Yelena tries to escape her dilemma, disasters keep mounting. Rebels plot to seize Ixia and she develops magical powers she can't control. Her life’s at stake again and choices must be made. But this time the outcomes aren’t so clear! Excerpt from Maria’s website.

Book Club on Facebook introduced me to Maria’s books and am I ever glad that they were on the suggestions page. Poison Study is set in a very interesting world with magicians who have been exiled from Ixia and Ixia has a strict political system.

Yelena is about to be executed but has a 2nd chance of life to be a food tester. Yelena is a very strong character she was put through hell during her teenage years and did the unimaginable to save herself which landed her in the dungeon. She doesn’t put up with any crap from anyone. If someone tries to pull a fast one on her, she hands it right back.

I do love me some Valek. He is one hot assassin. He is also very protective of Yelena, when no one else is. I must have a thing for fictional characters that are protective of the female lead. I;m starting to see a pattern here.

I did not want to put the down this book down. Maria kept my attention; I always wanted to know what was going to happen to Yelena next. I just couldn’t wait for work to be over so I could read at home.

I’m trying to get the BF to read this series because I think he will like it. It’s not a romantic novel but it does have some romantic parts but nothing a guy can’t handle and it is full of action.

Feel free to visit Maria’s website to learn more about her up and coming novels and well as short stories.
