Notice:

As of June 9, 2012 I will no longer be accepting e-books for review. This is due to the overwhelming
demand of reviews, work and night classes taking up a lot of my spare time. It
is taking me several months to read and post reviews therefore until “my to be

I am extremely sorry.

3. Undisclosed Desires by MUSE

This is my favourite song on the Resistance CD’s and seeing this song played live in concert was amazing. MUSE puts on a fabulous show.

Review: Bewitched & Betrayed by Lisa Shearin + Day 4 Contest

clip_image002Impending war is the least of her problems.

My name is Raine Benares. I’m a seeker. I find lost things and missing people — usually alive. Finding the specters of six evil mages who escaped the Saghred, a soul-eating stone of unlimited power, was easy. Stopping them before they unleash Hell on earth just may be the death of me.

Being bonded to the Saghred wasn’t my idea — neither is hunting down its escapees. Especially not when one of them is also hunting me. He’s regenerating his body by taking the lives of powerful victims, along with their memories, knowledge, and most important of all, their magic. The dark mage wants control of the Saghred, and if he gets it, he’ll become an evil demigod whom no one can stop. The only thing in his way is me.

One of us doesn’t stand a ghost of a chance.

Note: This first paragraph does have a spoiler - I have put it in white so you have to highlight it in order to read. But read at your own risk. I just said to say something about it but I don't want to spoil you so you make your own decision if you wanna be spoiled or not. :)

*Fan girl squeal* I am sooo happy with Raine that words can’t express how hot her nooky scene with Mychael was. I am sooo happy that she choice him. I do feel bad for Tam who has an obvious connection with Raine but man my team won....woot woot!

Okay on with the story.... Raine has met up with an old friend again Mr. Sarad Nukpana who is taking souls from residents of Isle of Mid. Mychael and Raine need to stop him before he can make his body whole again.

Mychael and Raine do get closer in this novel and Raine must make a hard decision regarding Tam. Talon tries to be a hero and gets himself in trouble. Piara’s can’t let his friend go alone so he follows Talon which results in Raine following as well. Like she needs anymore problems.

Bewitched & Betrayed is my favourite novel in the series. It was constantly keeping me on the edge of my seat. Lisa is the master of keeping her books paced with the amount of action she puts in them as well as the humour she uses with her characters.

Review: The Trouble with Demons by Lisa Shearin + Day 3 Contest

clip_image002

Be careful what you seek...

My name is Raine Benares. I’m a seeker. People hire me when they need something found. I’m not usually the one being sought. But that all changed when I found the Saghred, a soul-stealing stone of unlimited power — and the bane of my existence. Now mages and madmen have me in their sights, not to mention demons…

An opened Hellgate leads to a demon infestation on the Isle of Mid, and while there’s never an ideal time to face down demon hordes, it’s hard to imagine a worse one. Already fighting the influence of the Saghred, Raine discovers she is also magically bonded to a dark mage and a white knight, two dangerous and powerful men on opposing sides — and Raine’s stuck in the middle.

But with demons pouring through the Hellgate, Raine can’t afford to be distracted. Turns out, the demons want the key to unlock the Saghred. As a seeker, Raine should be able to find it first. As the axis of light and dark powers, she’s a magical cataclysm waiting to happen…

Raine’s love triangle is a lot more complicated than she expected and I am rooting for Mychael! His protectiveness has beaten out Tam’s dark and sexiness.

The Trouble with Demons focuses more on Raine’s relationship with Tam and Mychael but does not lack any action or humour. Trouble always seems to find Raine and Co. Especially with Piara’s and Talon who provide some humour when they are together. You have to completely different characters becoming friends – Talon the horn dog (who hits on his could be father’s girlfriend...that’s a little weird) and Piara’s the shy respectable one. Opposites attract in their friendship.

The Trouble with Demons wasn’t my favourite in the series but it did create a nice dilemma for Raine and got her closer to both men...so I can’t complain too much.

Raine also gets a very nice surprise at the end of the book that will hopefully help her rid the Saghred.

WoW: Con & Conjure by Lisa Shearin + Re-Create the Cover Contest

Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that I am eagerly anticipating.

Continuing with Lisa Shearin week I introduce the new book in the Raine series…. CON & CONJURE!!

My name is Raine Benares. I’m a seeker who finds lost things and missing people. My relatives, on the other hand, steal things. They’re the most notorious criminal family in the seven kingdoms. Sometimes I wonder if they have the right idea, especially since what I’ve found lately is likely to get me killed. And the Saghred, a soul-stealing stone that has given me unlimited power, is to blame for every last bit of it.

Ever since the Saghred bonded to me, the goblin king and the elven power brokers have wanted to possess its magic themselves. But to get it, they’ll have to get me, and their pockets are deep enough to make that happen. With the help of my highly qualified family, I’ve rigged the perfect con—one that will financially ruin the elves who are spoiling for war. My family’s run elaborate scams before, but none involving this much money, government officials this highly ranked, or a war this close to starting. In our way is a goblin thief who’s after the Saghred, and my ex-fiancĂ©—an elven assassin who may be after me. I broke up with him. Let’s just say it could have gone better.

If either the goblins or the elves get their hands on the Saghred, they have every intention of using it. Which means total annihilation will be inevitable… Excerpt from Lisa’s website.

Con & Conjure will be released on March 29, 2011. I can’t wait for it!

Review: Armed & Magical by Lisa Shearin + Day 2 Contest

clip_image002

Ordinary sorceress. Extraordinary power.
Suddenly she’s the most popular girl in town.

My name is Raine Benares. Until last week I was a seeker—a finder of things lost and people missing. Now I’m psychic roommates with the Saghred, an ancient stone with cataclysmic powers. Just me, the stone, and all the souls it’s ingested over the centuries. Crowded doesn’t even begin to describe it…

All Raine wants is her life back—which means getting rid of the stone and the power it possesses. To sort things out, she heads for the Isle of Mid, home to the most prestigious sorcery school, as well as the Conclave, the governing body for all magic users. It’s also home to power-grubbing mages who want Raine dead and goblins who see her as a thief. As if that’s not enough, Mid’s best student spellsingers are disappearing left and right, and Raine’s expected to find them.

Lives are at stake, goblins are threatening to sue, mages are getting greedier, and the stone’s power is getting stronger by the hour. This could get ugly. Excerpt from Lisa’s website.

Raine’s sassiness continues in the second novel in the series. Raine’s not only has herself to protect while in the Isle of Mid, now she has to keep Piara’s safe who is turning out of be the strongest spellsinger. To add to Raine’s troubles she finds herself in a love triangle with Tam and Mychael.

We find out some of Tams mysterious past which seems to make him hotter and Mychael’s protectiveness of Raine makes me gush over him. Once again Lisa keeps her humour and action which keeps the books paced nicely.

Armed & Magical is a nice middle to the series it prepares for the main dilemma Raine must overcome and gives a bit more background information on minor characters.
