As of June 9, 2012 I will no longer be accepting e-books for review. This is due to the overwhelming
demand of reviews, work and night classes taking up a lot of my spare time. It
is taking me several months to read and post reviews therefore until “my to be
reviewed list” is smaller I will no longer accept any more e-books for review.
I am extremely sorry.

Review: Radiant Shadows By Melissa Marr

Hunger for nourishment.

Hunger for touch.

Hunger to belong.

Half-human and half-faery, Ani is driven by her hungers.

Those same appetites also attract powerful enemies and uncertain allies, including Devlin. He was created as an assassin and is brother to the faeries' coolly logical High Queen and to her chaotic twin, the embodiment of War. Devlin wants to keep Ani safe from his sisters, knowing that if he fails, he will be the instrument of Ani's death.

Ani isn't one to be guarded while others fight battles for her, though. She has the courage to protect herself and the ability to alter Devlin's plans—and his life. The two are drawn together, each with reason to fear the other and to fear for one another. But as they grow closer, a larger threat imperils the whole of Faerie. Will saving the faery realm mean losing each other?

Alluring romance, heart-stopping danger, and sinister intrigue combine in the penultimate volume of Melissa Marr's New York Times bestselling Wicked Lovely series. Excerpt from Melissa’s website.

I really liked Radiant Shadows. Even though it focused on characters other than Aislinn and Keenan and had enough Seth in it to make me more than happy. Even thought I am a bit disappointed in Seth and his decision I still like it.

Radiant Shadows focuses on Ani and Devlin two very different characters whose lives have been intertwined since Ani was little. I love the connection that these two had. I think these two are my favourite couple in the whole series they are just perfect for each other and don’t have to worry about anything tearing them apart.

This novel sets up the series perfectly for an epic finale. I can’t wait to see what Melissa has in store for Seth & Aislinn and Donia & Keenan. I hope each and every one of them received their happy endings but that would just be happy wouldn’t it?

Would it be so bad if the Summer and Winter court were joined between love or the Summer and High Court were joined between love? And who is going to offset the Dark Court? I could see Bananach herself off setting the Dark Court – I definitely see her being all powerful.

Review: Fragile Eternity By Melissa Marr

Seth never expected he would want to settle down with anyone—but that was before Aislinn. She is everything he'd ever dreamed of, and he wants to be with her forever. Forever takes on new meaning, though, when your girlfriend is an immortal faery queen.

Aislinn never expected to rule the very creatures who'd always terrified her—but that was before Keenan. He stole her mortality to make her a monarch, and now she faces challenges and enticements beyond any she'd ever imagined.

In Melissa Marr's third mesmerizing tale of Faerie, Seth and Aislinn struggle to stay true to themselves and each other in a milieu of shadowy rules and shifting allegiances, where old friends become new enemies and one wrong move could plunge the Earth into chaos. Excerpt from Melissa’s website.

Okay, I am done.

I liked that Fragile Eternity explores Aislinn’s life as the queen of the Summer Court and her love triangle between Keenan and Seth (I’m voting for Seth, like you couldn’t tell).

Aislinn’s time with Keenan did make me melt and I felt so guilty because I love Seth. But Keenan does know how to woo a girl. Aislinn’s time with Seth made me melt and a bit jealous because I obviously want Seth for myself.

Seth’s friendship with Niall continues to grow and I’m not sure if it’s a good thing with his new status is does make the conflicts between the Summer/Winter/Dark Courts drama grow.

I love how Melissa has made Wicked Lovely and Ink Exchange link perfectly to Fragile Eternity she has pulled off what Holly Black did so wonderfully with the Modern Faerie Tales series.

Review: Ink Exchange By Melissa Marr

Unbeknownst to mortals, a power struggle is unfolding in a world of shadows and danger. After centuries of stability, the balance among the Faery Court has altered, and Irial, ruler of the Dark Court, is battling to hold his rebellious and newly vulnerable fey together. If he fails, bloodshed and brutality will follow.

Seventeen-year-old Leslie knows nothing of faeries or their intrigues. When she is attracted to an eerily beautiful tattoo of eyes and wings, all she knows is that she has to have it, convinced it is a tangible symbol of changes she desperately craves for her own life.

The tattoo does bring changes—not the kind Leslie has dreamed of, but sinister, compelling changes that are more than symbolic. Those changes will bind Leslie and Irial together, drawing Leslie deeper and deeper into the faery world, unable to resist its allures, and helpless to withstand its perils. . . . Excerpt from Melissa’s website.

I was really hoping to get my fix of Seth in this novel but little did I know it focused of Aislinn’s friend Leslie. I was a bit disappointed that Seth wasn’t in this novel but it was still pretty good.

I liked being able to get the perspective of the Dark Court, where are the cruel fairies are from. We do see a soft side of Irial the king of the Dark Court which you’d wouldn’t expect him to have a soft side. I liked how even though he pretty much ruined Leslie’s life he still cares a lot about her. It was kinda sweet in a weird way.

I’m crossing my fingers that the third novel has my fix of Seth in it because I dunno what I am going to do if I don’t get my Seth fix.

Review: Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr

With Darkest Mercy releasing yesterday I decided this week I would post my reviews of the Wicked Lovely Series.

Rule #3: Don't stare at invisible faeries.

Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in mortal world. Aislinn fears their cruelty—especially if they learn of her Sight—and wishes she were as blind to their presence as other teens.

Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries.

Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.

Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention.

But it's too late. Keenan is the Summer King who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost—regardless of her plans or desires.

Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; her life; everything.

Faerie intrigue, mortal love, and the clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in Melissa Marr's stunning 21st century faery tale. Excerpt from Melissa’s website.

I am confessing my love right now. SETH, I LOVE YOU!!! Yep, I said it I love Seth...anyone else?

I really enjoyed this novel. I liked the relationship with Aislinn and her friends, family and of course Seth. I liked feeling the tension of love between Keenan and Donia. I liked reading about Keenan and his quest to woo Aislinn. Aislinn consistently turning him down made me laugh my ass off.

Melissa knows how to keep her reading attention. I really didn’t want to put this book down but I had to because I stayed up soo late reading it that I was ready to pass out with the book on me and I didn’t want my book to get wrecked cause I love it too much. There was just enough tension between the characters to keep you guessing who was going to get their way and who was going to get screwed. There is also enough action to keep you turning the pages.

I can’t wait to read the next books in the series.

The Bleeders Book Tour: Michaela Haze’s Top Ten books of 2010

It is with great honour that I have Michaela Haze author of The Bleeders joining me today with a list of her favourite books!

I am a fan of books. If you know my name and/or have read my book and are thinking ‘duh this girl is an author, of course she loves books’ then I am sorry for informing you of the obvious. Who doesn’t love books? Lots of people. But since you are reading this on what appears to be a book blog, I am going to assume that you are a book lover too. So that’s good isn’t it?

This year I have read some pretty awesome stuff and as pdead-witch-walking-coverart of my Book Blog Tour for THE BLEEDERS I thought I would share some of the titles with you in case you were interested.

My belief is that people that don’t read live in very small worlds. Just by reading any sort of book, fantasy fiction or even a psychology text book—we realise when reading that book that our world is in fact very small. There is so much that we as singular people don’t get to experience and my belief is that everyone should read.

Gah! What is this? A pro-literary speech?

Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison 988-1

Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

The Magicians by Lev Grossman

Grave Sight by Charlaine Harris

Stray by Rachel Vincent

Scarred by Julia Hoban

Ill Wind by Rachel Caine 0307-9-7807783-2433-1-bigw

Uglies by Scott Westerfield

Poison Study by Maria V Snyder

If you have read any of the books on this list then you will be wondering, most possibly, why I love fantasy so much? I don’t know why, precisely. Can one say why they like ice cream so much? I like fantasy; I live fantasy as I write it. Creating a new world is much more interesting then run of the mill romantic stories for me—though I am a fan of those too.

I suggest these books because I love them. If you are curious as to what they are about then feel free to google them as I thought that my own little synopsis of each one did not do it justice.

And here is a suggestion, just because I can…

bleeeeeeThe Bleeders by Michaela Haze (That’s me!)

Sophia Taylor, Soho barmaid and alcoholic in denial, hires a hitman to kill the two murderers of her sister Melanie only to find that he is a hundred year old incubus with an addiction to life force and killing the scum of the earth to get it.

All she used to worry about was whether her kitchen cupboard was stocked with vodka, now she must run for her life.

Feel free to check it out.

Thank You Michaela! I love Poison Study as well! Make sure you check out all the other spots on the tour to learn more about The Bleeders. There’s even a giveaway!

Well today is the day that the FULL cover of SO SILVER BRIGHT to be revealed! Have you pieced all the fragments together?

I personally think this cover is BEAUTIFUL! It is my 2nd favourite in the series. EYES LIKE STARS being my favourite.

So I’ll stop teasing you.

Here is the summary for the book:

Bertie thinks her quest is almost done. With the help of Ariel and the rest of her friends, she has managed to find her father and rescue the kidnapped pirate, Nate, from Sedna the sea goddess. Now all she has to do is reunite her father, The Scrimshander, with her mother, Ophelia, and she will finally have a true family of her own.  However, things are never easy for Beatrice Shakespeare Smith. Her father has vanished, Sedna is out for revenge, her own actions have trapped the Theatre Illuminata, the only home she’s ever known, into a strange kind of limbo, and the stress of her in-between state is tearing apart the fragile threads of her mother’s sanity. Bertie’s best hope for salvaging the situation may lie in the summons by Her Gracious Majesty, Queen of the Distant Castle and hope of winning the magical boon given to the most pleasing performance. Bertie is caught between her growing responsibilities to home and family and the dream of flying free, just as her heart is torn between her two loves, Ariel and Nate. With so many forces pulling on her, how will Bertie be able to choose which wish to make come true?

Drum Roll Please!!!!

So Silver Bright cover for reveal

Isn’t is gorgeous? I LOVE IT! Bertie is so pretty with silver hair and the look on her face breaks my heart because I know she has a hard choice between Nate and Ariel. I can’t wait for this book.

This weeks question:

If you are a fan of Science Fiction what is your favourite book? If you haven't read Science Fiction before...any inkling to? Anything catch your eye?

The only SciFi book I’ve read was THE HOST by Stephenie Meyer. I personally think it would have made a better movie than a book. Are you guys SciFi fans?

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting

clip_image002Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her "power" to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes that the dead leave behind in the world... and the imprints that attach to their killers.

Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find the dead birds her cat had tired of playing with. But now that a serial killer has begun terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he's claimed haunt her daily, she realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.

Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet on her quest to find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved to find herself hoping that Jay's intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she's falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer... and becoming his prey herself .Excerpt from Kimberly’s website.

Criminal Minds meets YA Fiction is how I would categorize this novel therefore equalling an awesome book for me.

One of my favourite parts about this series was the chapters that were written in the point of view of the killer it was like I was hearing Dr. Reed telling his team just how the killer work and why he did the things that he did. I really like how Kimberly did this.

I also liked Vi and Jay relationship. It makes me wish I grew up with a childhood best friend that I would always stay best friends with. I’m so jealous of them. I love how their relationship evolves over the novel and how relationships with their mutual friends develop as well.

It was a quick read but for a Criminal Minds lover, I couldn’t imagine it any other way. Vi has some of the funniest girlfriends a girl can ask for. I loved Chelsea she made me laugh every time she opened her mouth.

The last 10 pages left me breathless than I let out a giant “thank god” – which the boyfriend totally looked at me like I was on something. I was this close (pretend that you are seeing my fingers show you a very very small space) to bawling my eyes out.

The Results:

WOW: Desires of the Dead

Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that I am eagerly anticipating.

This weeks WOW is Desires of the Dead by Kimberly Derting. Desires of the Dead is the sequel to The Body Finder.

Violet can sense the echoes of those who've been murdered—and the matching imprint that clings to their killers. Only those closest to her know what she is capable of, but when she discovers the body of a young boy she also draws the attention of the FBI, threatening her entire way of life.

As Violet works to keep her morbid ability a secret, she unwittingly becomes the object of a dangerous obsession. Normally she'd turn to her best friend, Jay, except now that they are officially a couple, the rules of their relationship seem to have changed. And with Jay spending more and more time with his new friend Mike, Violet is left with too much time on her hands as she wonders where things went wrong. But when she fills the void by digging into Mike's tragic family history, she stumbles upon a dark truth that could put everyone in danger.  Excerpt from Kimberly’s website.

I can’t wait for this one and we only have to wait until February 15! I shall post my review of the Body Finder on Friday.
