As of June 9, 2012 I will no longer be accepting e-books for review. This is due to the overwhelming
demand of reviews, work and night classes taking up a lot of my spare time. It
is taking me several months to read and post reviews therefore until “my to be
reviewed list” is smaller I will no longer accept any more e-books for review.
I am extremely sorry.

Review: Nightshade by Andrea Cremer

While other teenage girls daydream about boys, Calla Tor imagines ripping out her enemies’ throats. And she wouldn’t have it any other way. Calla was born a warrior and on her eighteenth-birthday she’ll become the alpha female of the next generation of Guardian wolves. But Calla’s predestined path veers off course the moment she saves the life of a wayward hiker, a boy her own age. This human boy’s secret will turn the young pack's world upside down and forever alter the outcome of the centuries-old Witches' War that surrounds them all. Excerpt from Andrea’s website.

Nightshade is not your typical werewolf story and I loved it!! I loved the world that Andrea created between the Keepers and the Guardians. Andrea’s characters are also very lovable. I love Shay and Ren each have their own faults but they are both perfect and it’s hard to just pick one.

I like how Andrea mixed wolf and witch lore together to create a unique series. Andrea has created secondary characters personality that I have no idea who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. I think I may know but everything seems to take way different twists and turns that I’m only like 5% sure I know.

I love the tension that surrounds all the little love birds in the series. There is so much love to go around it is crazy! Everyone is falling in love with someone of the pack even though they know they could have their hearts broken and have to mate with another. It makes me sad. I hope Andrea keeps all her love birds together. I can’t wait to read Wolfsbane.

Review: Happy Birthday to Me by Brian Rowe

Seventeen-year-old Cameron Martin has a huge problem: he’s aging a whole year of his life with each passing day!

High school is hard enough; imagine rapidly aging from seventeen to seventy in a matter of weeks, with no logical explanation, and with prom, graduation, and the state championship basketball game all on the horizon. That’s what happens to Cameron, a popular pretty boy who's never had to face a day looking anything but perfect.

All Cameron wants to do is go back to normal, but no one, not even the best doctors, can diagnose his condition. When he finds love with a mysterious young woman, however, he realizes his only hope for survival might be with the one person who started his condition in the first place... Excerpt from Brian’s website.

First, I would like to thank Brian for offering me a copy Happy Birthday to Me to review. I thought Happy Birthday to Me was well written and that the characters were relatable. I was able to pick a person from my graduating class that would fit each character perfectly which was kinda cool but I won’t mention any names haha.

I found that the story was fairly predictable. I knew the exact moment when Cameron would start aging and I knew what exactly caused it. The story also reminded me of 17 Again starring Zac Efron just in reverse (who by the way I think would make a perfect Cameron). One of the final scenes between Wes and Cameron brought me to tears. I liked how their friendship was simple yet complicated.

The book ended in a way that leaves readers content with the characters but Brian has 2 more books in the series and one thing that isn’t predictable is I have no idea where he is going to take the story. So I am very curious to see where it goes.

Review: Personal Demons by Lisa Desrochers

Frannie Cavanaugh has always been a bit of a loner. She's spent years keeping everyone at a distance, even her closest friends. That is, until Luc Cain enrolls in her school. He's hot, sarcastic, and dangerous—and Frannie can't seem to stay away.

What she doesn't know is that Luc is on a mission. Because Frannie isn't exactly ordinary. She possesses a skill so unique that the king of Hell himself has taken notice, and he's sent Luc to claim Frannie's soul. It should be easy: All he has to do is get her to sin, and Luc is as tempting as they come.

Unfortunately for Luc, Heaven has other plans, and he's just started making progress when the angel Gabriel shows up. Gabe will do anything to keep Luc from getting what he came for, and his angelic charm might just be enough to keep Frannie on the right path.

It isn't long before Luc and Gabe find themselves fighting for more than just Frannie's soul. But if Luc fails to win her over, there will be Hell to pay . . . for all of them. Excerpt from Lisa’s website.

Gabe? Luc? Gabe? Luc? AAAAHHH To much hottest to choice!!! But finally I think I decided to go with Luc.

I loved Personal Demons. Lisa created a fabulous first book to the series. I love all Frannie, Gabe and Luc. These characters made me laugh, cry, and angry. You name the emotion and I probably felt it while reading this book. The story was well written. I liked being able to read from Frannie’s and Luc’s perspectives. If we were about to read from Gabe’s perception I think it would have made the choice between Luc and Gabe even harder. I can’t wait to see where Lisa takes the story in Original Sin. I’m looking forward to reading it!

I like Maria V Snyder (Author of the Study Series, Glass Series and Inside Out) quote on the book because it sums this novel up perfectly. Maria had this to say about Personal Demons:

“Fun and entertaining....the fight for Frannie’s soul isn’t going to be easy, and the excitement doesn’t stop. Good versus evil shouldn’t be this much fun, but it is! A hot debut”

I completely agree with Maria. Good versus evil shouldn’t be this fun or hot! It should be an easy decision but really it’s not.

Review: Firelight by Sophie Jordan

Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet of her kind, she nearly pays with her life, only to be spared by a beautiful stranger sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki--a descendant of dragons whose ability to shift into human form is her best defense.
Forced to flee into the mortal world, Jacinda struggles to adapt. The one bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irrestibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away - if it dies she will be left a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.
Mythical powers and irresistible passion ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide ...

I haven’t read a book about dragons since Eragon and I found Sophie’s take on dragons to be quite interesting and entertaining. I like that the family dynamics are more complicated than I get along perfectly with my mother or she doesn’t exist.

I liked being able to feel Jacinda’s contradicting feelings towards Will. It actually felt that you were the one who was having the feelings. Many times I yelled out “Oh Come on Jacinda don’t you see it!” I love when I am able to yell at a character – even if they aren’t real they feel real to me.

I really like Will, he is a real sweetheart and Jacinda seems to think so as well. There is just enough action, family drama and romance in this novel to satisfy every reader. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Review: The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan

In Mary's world, there are simple truths.
The Sisterhood always knows best.
The Guardians will protect and serve.
The Unconsecrated will never relent.
And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village. The fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth.
But slowly, Mary's truths are failing her. She's learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power. And, when the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness.
Now she must choose between her village and her future, between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded by so much death? Excerpt from Carrie’s

This one took a while for me to get into it. This was the first zombie book I have read so I really didn’t know what to expect. I liked the world that Carrie has created after the “Return” (post apocalypse America).

I really liked Mary’s character because she wasn’t driven to make the decisions she made because of some boy. She made her decisions based on her dream to see the ocean. This was the most refreshing concept ever! It was nice not to read about a doe eyed girl. There is still some romance in the series but it doesn’t drive the main characters decisions – yes it does have some impact but it isn’t the main reason. Also, my name was in the book that always makes me happy J I’m a dork like that. (Thanks Carrie for using Cassandra – even though I’m sure you didn’t name the character after me. I shall pretend you did ;) )

The book is filled with sadness and death but it fits in the story so well. I can’t wait to read the companion novel The Dead-Tossed Waves and see where Carrie takes her world. She left The Forest of Hands and Teeth so open that there are so many ways Carrie can go with the story.

All was perfect in Julia’s life until Nicholas had his vampire blood-lust activated by his mother Alora, her immortal enemy, turning him evil and bent on revenge. Heartbroken and out of choices, Phil and Julia ran away in the middle of the night, with Scarlett on foot, to Orange County to warn and plead Nicholas’ Godfather for help. Once arriving at Harry’s though, the local coven accosted them and they narrowly escaped.

After they returned home, there was a huge showdown between Phil, Nicholas, Scarlett, Alora, Katie and Julia. Alora almost got what she wanted—Julia’s vampire warding talisman—but Preston, Nicholas’ father, and Harry came to the rescue. They escorted Nicholas and Alora back to Beverly Hills, pledging to return Nicholas free from his blood-lust. But all Julia’s received in the past four months is a letter stating Nicholas missed her along with some song lyrics and promise of a quick return. That was a month ago.

Now Julia awaits Nicholas’ return with the Fab Five Coven: Phil and Katie—the sober vampires, Scarlett—the half-vamp/shape-shifter, and Tyler and Julia—the inducted humans. She’s stuck in Scotts Valley with Phil as her self-appointed chaperon and no way to return to Los Angeles to check on Nicholas. Only Scarlett and Julia know her fate ultimately involves the demise of all vampires, possibly including the ones she loves. When the time comes, will she even have a choice?

Torment by Lauren Kate

Lucinda is sure that she and Daniel are meant to be together forever. Now they are forced apart in a desperate bid to save Luce from the Outcasts–immortals who want her dead. As she discovers more about her past lives, Luce starts to suspect that Daniel is hiding something. What if he has lied to her about their shared past? What if Luce is really meant to be with someone else? Excerpt from Lauren’s website.

I found Torment to be a little bit better than Fallen but it still didn’t have that wow factor for me. I liked being able to read about Daniel and his adventures away from Luce. I also liked how we got to learn more about Luce being able to see her past life and learn more history about the world of fallen angels.

I liked the new characters that Lauren created in this series; I found that I was able to relate to these characters more than the characters in Fallen. Each of these characters has an interesting past that was neat to learn and I can’t wait to learn more about the new characters. As the series continues I find the next book to be better so I have some faith that Passion may just blow me away with the telling of Luce and Daniels past lives.

Review: Fallen by Lauren Kate

Some Angels are Destined to Fall

There’s something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce–and goes out of his way to make that very clear–she can’t let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.

Dangerously exciting and darkly romantic, Fallen is a page turning thriller and the ultimate love story. Excerpt from Lauren’s website.

Fallen reminded me of two other series that I have read. In my opinion if you mush Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick with The Immortal Series by Alyson Noel you get Fallen. Fallen was written beautifully and I really liked the concept. But for me it just didn’t have the wow factor that blew me away.

I liked how each of the characters has some sort of problem that they had to deal with and how you never really knew which of Luce’s friends you should trust and dislike.

Overall, I found the novel okay. For any fallen angel’s lover I’m sure this is one novel you would like to add to your collection.

WoW: Swear

Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that I am eagerly anticipating.

This weeks WoW is Swear by Nina Malkin.

A promise broken. A bond betrayed. It’s been six months since ghost-turned golem Sinclair Youngblood Powers confessed his love, stole Dice’s heart, and disappeared from Swoon, perhaps from existence. Despite the hurt, Dice has been moving steadily toward ordinary. Dreams of Sin still plague and pleasure her sleep, and the mark of Sin’s love remains on her skin, still sore....moreA promise broken. A bond betrayed. It’s been six m...onths since ghost-turned golem Sinclair Youngblood Powers confessed his love, stole Dice’s heart, and disappeared from Swoon, perhaps from existence. Despite the hurt, Dice has been moving steadily toward ordinary. Dreams of Sin still plague and pleasure her sleep, and the mark of Sin’s love remains on her skin, still sore. But Dice has been throwing herself into music, finding solace in song and sometimes even in the arms of her band mate, Tosh. Life seems almost…normal. The last thing Dice wants is to mess with anything remotely supernatural. But when her best friend’s boyfriend goes missing, Dice has no choice but to become very much involved. She knows that his disappearance was no accident, and it somehow has everything to do with Sin. Because Dice can feel it: Sin is back. And the promises and deceptions he left in his wake have returned to haunt him.
What do you do when an oath of devotion threatens to destroy the one you love?

I’ve read Swear awhile ago and its wasn’t a favourite and I found myself re-reading parts but I kinda want to know where the story is going….So I have to read it.

Swear comes out Summer 2011.

Review: 13 to Life by Shannon Delany

Something strange is stalking the small town of Junction…

When junior Jess Gillmansen gets called out of class by Guidance, she can only presume it’s for one of two reasons. Either they’ve finally figured out who wrote the scathing anti-jock editorial in the school newspaper or they’re hosting yet another intervention for her about her mom. Although far from expecting it, she’s relieved to discover Guidance just wants her to show a new student around—but he comes with issues of his own including a police escort.

The newest member of Junction High, Pietr Rusakova has secrets to hide--secrets that will bring big trouble to the small town of Junction—secrets including dramatic changes he’s undergoing that will surely end his life early. Excerpt from Shannon’s website.

13 to Life was a very interesting book. I liked how Shannon created her wolves as they are different than your typical “get bitten and you turn type” wolves. Shannon’s are completely different and we only know what I think is a quarter of the story. I couldn’t believe the way she ended it. I was like what? There has to be I missing pages??? I can’t wait to read book 2 Secrets and Shadows.

I find Jess to be a very strong individual. She puts her friends before herself even if it takes away from her happiness. She is also best friends with the girl that killed her mother. I wouldn’t be able to do that. Jess sees the good in everyone. Living in a small town of Junction probably does that to you. I like Pietr even if I disagree with some of the things he does. I know Jess told him to but still!

I’m Back!

Well I just wanted to drop a quick note that I am now free from tax jail which means I’ll be back to blogging.

Some funny things happened while in tax jail….someone on Twitter actually thought I went to jail for the month lol that was pretty funny. I was mistaken for Cassandra Clare 3 times which is a real honor.

Here is what I did all April. Our firm did ~1250 returns, I read books 2-5(currently one 5) of the Sookie Stackhouse series. I LOVE Alcide, I HATE Bill. But more on that later.

I would like to thank all my fellow bloggers who guest posted during the month of April I really really appreciate it.

I only have 20% left on my PVR Confused smile and GLEE never taped last week or this week so I’m extremely sad about that.

Some exciting things are going to happen this month. Lisa Shearin answered a few of my questions, I’m part of a blog tour, my mothers first review will be posted and I will finally post my review of ALL the books you voted for me to read.

I was going to pick a winner tomorrow but I think I shall do it now.

There were 239 entries and has chosen…..

Carina Olsen!!!!

Congrats Carina! I will be emailing you shortly and you have until Friday at midnight MST to email me your mailing address so make sure you check your SPAM box.

In other news….Canada finally has a MAJORITY government! YAY!!!!

I’m glad to be back and I hope you are all glad I’m back as well.
