Notice:

As of June 9, 2012 I will no longer be accepting e-books for review. This is due to the overwhelming
demand of reviews, work and night classes taking up a lot of my spare time. It
is taking me several months to read and post reviews therefore until “my to be
reviewed list” is smaller I will no longer accept any more e-books for review.
I am extremely sorry.

New Poll

So my mother has gotten Twitter. She’s kind of a noob at it but that’s okay I think we were all noobs at Twitter when we first started I know I was.

Anyways, when I first started my blog my mom was interested in reviewing books. So I figured I would ask you all my lovely wonderful followers what your thoughts would be on having my mom join the Vamps, Weres and Cassay team.

My mom reads mostly contemporary, historical and mystery novels mostly from the adult section. She does tip her toes into the paranormal romance YA section when I tell her that she WILL love a book but mostly those are her choices.

With adding my mom into the mix you will get tons of book choices in different genres. I’ll break it down for you all:

Cassay: YA/Adult – paranormal romance, urban fantasy, adventures fantasy

Mother (That’s her online name ATM hehe):
Adult -Contemporary, Historical, and Mystery

So what are your thoughts…Should I bring my mother into the blogging world?

You can let me know your thoughts in the comments or on the poll found on the right sidebar.

Also if you comment I’ll donate $0.50 to The Red Cross to help with the Japan efforts!

Cassay helps Japan

So yesterday I decided to watch the news. I normally don’t because I prefer not to hear about the latest murder or other depressing things and I could care less about politics. But I turned it on to find out a little bit more about what was happening in Japan. The first image that I saw was a video of the tsunami washing away a road. I had tears in my eyes while watching this and then it reminded me of a scene in Heidi Kling’s SEA which is set after the Indonesia tsunami. So I decided why don’t I run a challenge on my blog. So this is what I am come up with.Canadian%20Red%20Cross

For every comment between now and April 1st I will donate $0.50 CDN to The Red Cross. Minimum donation of $25.00 to a maximum of $200.00. So if my math is correct 50 comments = $25.00 and 400 comments = $200.00.

So what is in it for you guys besides helping me help Japan?

Well once I get 50 comments 1 lucky winner will receive a copy of SEA by Heidi Kling.

sea

If I get 400+ comments 1 winner will get $15.00 CDN to spend at Book Depository.

AND if my very first VLOG receives 50 views and some feedback comments on the blog (I’d love to hear what you think and what I should do better next week) I will add a copy of Con & Conjure into the mix.

con-conjure-layout-186x300

You can comment on any post there is over ~160 posts so pretty much 4 people who have lots of spare time on there hands could get us to 400 comments.

Each comment has to be at least 3 words long. And for every comment you make you get 1 entry Smile So if you comment 100 times you get 100 entries. I’m being mean and you have to keep track of your points and I’ll trust that your telling the truth. Anon comments are welcome as long as you leave your name.

Rules:

- 13 years or older (exception Con & Conjure winner must be over 18)
- Open International (if Book Depository ships to you)
- Ends April 1 at midnight
- 1 comment = 1 entry
- Random.org will chose the winner

Fill out this FORM to enter!

Thank you all in advance for your comments. As a FYI at least $25.00 will be donated to The Red Cross even if no one comments. But I hope you all will Smile

A Post to Congratulate Rob Thurman!

3rd-fabulous-weekly-winner

I would like to send out a HUGE CONGRATS TO ROB THURMAN of making it on the NYT Best Seller list! Rob’s newest book Blackout debuted at #19!!!! I am so excited and happy for Rob!

Rob Thurman

Here is a little bit about Blackout:

Blackout-1240x2000

I was alone, and I was lost. I didn’t know where I was; I didn’t know who I was. It doesn’t get more lost than that. Knowing what I knew and not knowing anything else at all, why would I want to be in the darkness where monsters hide?

Because killers hide there, too…

Half-human Cal Leandros has always walked a bloody line between keeping his mortal soul free and clear (sort of) and unleashing the horror of his otherworldly heritage. The one thing that’s always saved him is the memory of his brother, Niko, his friends, and those he loves.

Until now.

Cal wakes up on a beach littered with the recently slaughtered remains of a variety of hideous creatures that were obviously looking for trouble. The fact that he was the one doing the slaughtering doesn’t bother him. The fact that he feels like a natural-born killer doesn’t either. What bothers him is that Cal doesn’t remember Cal anymore…

And he’s not sure he cares.

Visit Rob’s site to learn more about Cal and Rob’s other series.

Congrats again Rob!

Review: CHIME by Franny Billingsley

Chime_cover

Briony knows she is a witch. She knows that she is guilty of hurting her beloved stepmother. She also knows that, now her stepmother is dead, she must look after her beautiful but complicated twin sister, Rose. Then the energetic, electric, golden-haired Eldric arrives in her home town of Swampsea, and everything that Briony thinks she knows about herself and her life is turned magically, dizzyingly, upside down. Excerpt from Bloomsbury.

I really liked the concept and story of CHIME. Briony's character is very interesting and complex. I was hooked on the book within the first two chapters but I found it really hard to understand certain parts of the book it seemed to flip from present time to Briony thinking about something in her past. I would have liked it was made clearer when we was switching times periods because for me it was hard to follow and seemed like Briony had A.D.D because she was constantly switching back and forth. But once I got use to the writing style it was easier to follow.

I really liked the story itself though. I was very intrigued by the “swamp” and the creatures that lived there. It’s too bad that we didn’t get to learn more about them. I really liked Eldric he is very charming and kind of reminds me of Johnny Deep in Finding Neverland. I love Eldric and Briony’s relationship they act like they are the best of friends and have a wonderful brother/sister relationship even though they aren’t brother/sister.

Overall, I felt that the story was good but the writing was hard to understand. If you like stories about witches this one is for you.

I would like to thank Kai from Fiction State of Mind for sending me her the extra copy she got at ALA along with VLAD TATTOOS! I <3 YOU KAI!

Follow Friday

Oh look at me and my good memory skills!

Our feature this week is...

Ashley of Bookaholic Does Blogging

I'm Ashley and I run Bookaholic Does Blogging!  I started Bookaholic Does Blogging in October 2010 when I discovered my personal blog was becoming a sea of book posts. I'm pretty open in my taste for books and there isn't much I won't read.  I most enjoy paranormal books, though I'll pick up a chick lit just as easily.  Some other genres I love include historical fiction, mystery, romance, and pretty much anything that is fiction.  It's a rare occasion when I read a non-fiction novel.
As far as Ashley the girl, I am currently a junior in college studying Accounting, Finance, and Economics (it's a lot -- I know)!  I am currently engaged and planning a Fall 2012 wedding.  I also have two awesome cats that I love. =)  In addition to reading, I enjoy shopping and crafty things as well. =)

Q. Just like Ashley said (love it) "Ashley the girl..." who are You the Boy/Girl, instead of You the Blogger?

I am Cassie the girl. Just like Ashley I am studying accounting been working in an accounting firm for 3 years now and very very close to having my degree Smile

My Very First VLOG: Review: Con & Conjure by Lisa Shearin

So I decided that I would do a VLOG. But unfortunately I am battling a cold but I really really wanted to do a VLOG for Con & Conjure so you will all have to ignore my annoying sick voice. I focused on talking about the characters so I wouldn’t spoil anything big for you all.

Please let me know what you all think about my very first VLOG. If you have any tips I would love to hear them.

I can’t believe YouTube picked that picture to have the thumbnail but whatever YouTube.

So what do you all think?
