Notice:

As of June 9, 2012 I will no longer be accepting e-books for review. This is due to the overwhelming
demand of reviews, work and night classes taking up a lot of my spare time. It
is taking me several months to read and post reviews therefore until “my to be
reviewed list” is smaller I will no longer accept any more e-books for review.
I am extremely sorry.

Review: Fangs for Nothing by Adrianne Ambrose

Fangs Cover

Grab some garlic and start sharpening your mother's wooden spoons because there are vampires living in the most unlikely of places.
I’ve always wanted to meet a vampire. Not to stake some poor bloodsucker as he sleeps in his coffin or have some sexy vampiress bite me on the neck, but just to see a creature so rare and infamous. What can I say? Some people want to sail to Easter Island, others want to fling themselves out of an airplane, I want to shake hands with a vampire. Well, maybe I should prioritize getting a girlfriend first, but a vampire sighting is pretty high up on the list. Trust me, a lot of kids my age dream about it. Like my two best friends, Rini and Xander. We spent half the summer searching the most notorious cities in the United States for the undead, but so far, no luck.
That’s why it came as a total shock to discover a living, breathing vampire in our hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. (Okay, so he’s more undead and not breathing, but you get the picture.) At first we were kind of excited, but then pretty freaked because it turns out our new fanged friend has a hold on the city's teenage population and a specific thirst for their blood. Which, in a word—bites. Excerpt from
Amazon.com

Fangs for Nothing is probably the funniest vampire novel that I have ever read. There were so many times that I laughed out loud and may have had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard (thankfully no one was in the lunch room with me). Fangs for Nothing starts with Sherbie, Xander and Rini in search for vampires but they come up empty handed and head back home from San Francisco. Sherbie and Xander’s friendship made me die of laughter they are always making fun of each other. Xander decides he needs to be “cool” around the ladies and with Sherbie in so much denial that I girl may actually like him instead of just friends. This creates tons of humor because being a girl I could read all the signs Maureen and Lana were sending Sherbie but he was too blind to see it which left me laughing at him. Rini’s character was the typically girl who has a crush on the hot best friend and thinks he doesn’t like her like that and falls into the world of vampires with Maureen.

Fangs for Nothing is a great read for vampire fans looking for a good laugh.

Review: Happy Birthday to Me Again by Brian Rowe

Cameron Martin has a huge problem: he's aging a whole year of his life with each passing day... again. And this time... he's going backward!

When Cameron proposes to his beloved witch of a girlfriend Liesel, he thinks life can't get any better. But when he reluctantly breaks off the engagement just days before the wedding, Liesel angrily unleashes another curse on the unlucky guy, this time making him age backward, from eighteen, all the way to zero.

Making matters worse, Liesel mysteriously disappears, leaving Cameron with no options, except watching himself rapidly shrink into a helpless child. Will Liesel be able to save his life again? Or will Cameron be stuck in diapers for the rest of eternity? Excerpt from Brian’s website.

I liked Happy Birthday To Me Again better than I like Happy Birthday To Me. It was not nearly as predictable and I found myself being shocked by the turn of events. I love Cameron and Liesel’s relationship it is soo sweet that even though they have been dating for a short period of time they know they are meant for each other and I guess going through serious things as aging backward and forwards could help that cause. I hated Hannah the moment she was introduced. I have an issue with hot girls being introduced mid series interfering with the happy couple they just rub me the wrong way.

Happy Birthday To Me Again is a quick and easy read and I can’t wait to see where the story goes in Happy Birthday to You because Brian ended in it such a cliff hanger that I need to know what happens next!

Special thank to Brian for providing me a review copy!

Fall Gift Exchange!

So as we speak I am submitting my Auditing Case and I am crossing my fingers that I passed this time…I need at least a 70% of its considered a fail Sad smile.

Now I have some free time until Dec 5 when I start my new class…this one is a biggie that comes with a 4 hour national exam that can only be taken twice and you need 65 – 70 % to pass (I forget which I’m hoping for the 65%) and because of this class starting on the 5th I am missing Christopher Paolini who is coming to Alberta!!! We never get anyone awesome here so I am super bummed out about that. I was pouting around the house yesterday when I put 2 and 2 together after trying to figure out how I could make it to work on time and get a wristband.

Anyways to the real reason I am posting today….

I participated in a Fall Gift Exchange hosted by the wonderful Ruby at Ruby Reads.

I sent Lindsey at Babes’s, Books and Signs

The Murderer's Daughters and The Thirteenth Chime

and Patricia from Patricia's Particularity sent me

Silence and Original Sin and some sweet Halloween socks, stickers, pencils, tissues and creepy little spiders that totally made me scream when I opened the box because I HATE spiders! lol

Thank you to Ruby for hosting and Patricia for the wonderful goodies and to Lindsey I hope you enjoy your novels.

There will be a Spring Gift Exchange if anyone is interested keep your eyes open!

Oct Wrap up / Nov RAK

Well it was a crazy busy October for me and I can’t believe it is almost Christmas!! I am usually done my shopping by now and it may even be wrapped….and this year I haven’t even start! EEP!

This month I sent:

I sent Ashley Original Sin by Lisa D

I didn’t receive any books this month but that is okay I like the feeling of doing something nice for someone.

RAK_button_FINAL1

In the spirit of being thankful, we sometimes need a tinsy reminder that R.A.K. is not about receiving FREE books! It's about giving as well as receiving. It's about passing on the joy of reading and books with others. If during any given month, you find that you may not be able to give at all, please reconsider signing up for that month. We've found that there have been quite a few people who have received but not given and that may seem unfair to some.

COMPLETE RULES RE-CAP:
Please read carefully & follow all rules! Thank you!

  • Please sign-up each month that you can participate (and by participate, we mean give as well as receive).
  • Show off your participation by grabbing our RAK button (code is in the right sidebar).
  • Create a wish list (on Amazon, Goodreads, or your blog etc) and post it in the Google Doc located in each R.A.K post for the month.
  • If you choose to do a R.A.K for someone, check out their wish list and contact that blogger directly for their information.
  • Once you receive a RAK, send us an our new email to [rakbybooksoulmates @ gmail . com] so that we can update the Google Doc. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU SEND EMAILS TO THIS ADDRESS!
  • E-book participation is limited to files being gifted directly to a person from the e-book store. Amazon's Kindle Store is set up to allow this, as well as the Kobo store and we believe Barnes & Noble with Nook as well.
  • At the end of the month, SHOW US YOUR R.A.K by making a "RAK Wrap-Up" post. This post should include who you SENT gifts to as well who you RECEIVED gifts from :)

OPEN TO EVERYONE including all our International brethren!

Remember, there's always the Book Depository and they offer FREE shipping!

Easy peezy!!

Tips:

1. When talking about RAK on Twitter, please use the hastag (#RAK). It makes it much easier to keep track of the conversations, answer questions and/or tweet back! =)

2. When submitting your wish list, please make sure that it is set to PUBLIC viewing. Some people have run into trouble with wish lists that were set to private. We want to be sure that no one is left out of getting great RAKs.

3. Some of you seem to have gotten frustrated because you can't get your links to appear active. This is a very easy fix :) Just make sure that when you enter your link, do NOT hit the Enter key. Instead, hit the TAB key which will send you to the next field on the form. Additional spaces entered after the link will leave the link inactive. However, if this does happen to you...no worries, we'll fix it for you :)
