Notice:

As of June 9, 2012 I will no longer be accepting e-books for review. This is due to the overwhelming
demand of reviews, work and night classes taking up a lot of my spare time. It
is taking me several months to read and post reviews therefore until “my to be
reviewed list” is smaller I will no longer accept any more e-books for review.
I am extremely sorry.

Nov Wrap Up / Dec RAK

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful November. Mine was busy with exams that I completely forgot to send out a RAK last month! I always remember! SO this month I didn’t send anything and I didn’t receive anything.

Thankfully a bit of stress has been lifted off of me with no more school until Mat. I’m excited for this! Yahoo! I move in less than 4 mths! That’s excited and stressful at the same time. It will be the first time I move away from home.
But you might be seeing me more on the blog because I am going to try super hard to get some reviews in.
Anyways lets get onto the RAK!
Here is the rules taken from Book Soulmates blog:

{Click on the RAK button above to be re-directed to our Book Soulmates Store on Amazon. You can find all your favorite titles there and add them to your shopping cart.}
2012 is quickly coming to a close and we have one month left of RAK before greeting a new year (that is if the Mayans are wrong)! Christmas is just around the corner and RAK is a great way to send a bookish present to one of your bloggy pals or even a perfect stranger.
COMPLETE RULES RE-CAP:
Please read carefully & follow all rules! Thank you!

  • Please sign-up each month that you can participate (and by participate, we mean give as well as receive).
  • Show off your participation by grabbing our RAK button (code is in the right sidebar).
  • Create a wish list (on Amazon, Goodreads, or your blog, etc) and post it in the Google Doc located in each R.A.K post for the month.
  • If you choose to do a R.A.K for someone, check out their wish list and contact that blogger directly for their information.
  • Once you receive a RAK, send us an our new email to [rakbybooksoulmates @ gmail . com] so that we can update the Google Doc. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU SEND EMAILS TO THIS ADDRESS!
  • E-book participation is limited to files being gifted directly to a person from the e-book store. Amazon's Kindle Store is set up to allow this, as well as the Kobo store and we believe Barnes & Noble with Nook as well.
  • At the end of the month, SHOW US YOUR R.A.K by making a "RAK Wrap-Up" post. This post should include who you SENT gifts to as well who you RECEIVED gifts from :)

3rd Annual Holiday #Readathon!!!

Why hello my fellow Holiday Readathoners (totally made that word up haha). Once again I am participating in the Holiday Readathon that started one blistery night 3 years ago. I have never been successful is any attempts :(. Something always comes up that makes it so that I am not able to read as much as I would like. For example this Saturday is a write off I have a hair appointment then a birthday party and then a Christmas party. So not much reading will be happening.

I plan on finishing BEFORE I WAKE by Rachel Vincent. If I reach this goal it will be a success! I'm also taking the weekend for myself. Its the first weekend I don't have to worry about school or tests! YAHOO!!! I'm hoping to get some reviews written while I am on Christmas holidays and getting some e-books read that I accepted for review but haven't had a chance to get to.

This year I am also doing a mini-challenge for the Holiday Readathon!!

My Mini-Challenge is 2 questions that you must answer in the comments in order to win my prize pack! You also must be over the age of 13 and participating in the Holiday Readathon (you can sign up here). This giveaway is also International!!!

Questions:

What is your favorite holiday movie?
Mine is A Year Without A Santa Claus - the claymation version not the real life crap they made a few years ago.

and

Which fictional character (TV/Movie/Novel) would you like to be your "Santa Baby"? (When I think of the song I think of who would your sexy Santa be)

My pick Dean Winchester from the TV Show Supernatural. He is my one true love of the fictional world.

Prizes:

1 *signed* paperback of RELEASED by Megan Duncan & $10.00 CDN to Book Depository.

Here is a little bit about RELEASED and you can check out my review here:

After a demon apocalypse kills their parents and everyone they know, 17-year old Abby Phillips, her brother, Carter, and friend, Max flee their home to travel through what has become the wastelands of America. When radio transmissions of a resistance offering shelter and safety cease, Abby is tempted to give up.  Struggling to overcome life-threatening obstacles in their dangerous journey, Abby and her companions quickly discover there are much worse things lurking in the dark than they could have ever imagined.

This is one of my favorite novels! I hope you enjoy it.

Below is the Rafflecopter giveaway form but remember to leave a comment with your answers!

Good Luck, happy reading and Merry Christmas!!!

I hope you enjoy!

Falling From Eternity-Cover

“I looked around the cemetery at the dead trees, and lonely tombstones; at the long deceased flowers and desolate landscape, and realized that maybe there really wasn’t anything more than this.

You live and then you die. My immortality wasn’t some gift to make a difference in the world, or to give me time to find purpose in life, but simply a curse. A curse to wander around in a stagnant void.

I could be nothing more than what I was, a creature of nightmare. My existence had no meaning, no point. I lived only to feed, to gorge myself on blood and satisfy my every desire no matter how dark or cruel.

That was what I was, and trying to change that was… useless.”

So are you all super excited???

Oct Wrap Up/ Nov RAK

Hey everyone,

Did you all have a good October? Lots of treats from Halloween?

October was an alright month for me I got to experience the 1st EVER Edmonton Expo. I have this to show from it:

031208-N2YZ

Yes that is me with MISHA COLLINS from Supernatural!!!! Woot woot….don’t know him he is Cass the Angel. He asked if Cassie was my real name and when I said “Yes” his reply was “Well that is fuuuucked up” I giggled like a school girl.

I also won an N7 Mass Effect shirt that my BF stole from me. Bought a World of Warcraft artwork piece for the condo. I had an amazing time there.

I also got to meet up with the Edmonton Book Bloggers and we had a great time chatting about books. Most of the time we were talking over each other.

Today, was a shitty ass day with the roads their was a blizzard out and tons of accidents. Last I heard by 3:30 p.m. there was over 200 of them and at least 3 were fatal Sad smile.

We also heard from my mom’s doctor about her Chemo treatment and the Dr. doesn’t want her to work for the next 6-7 mth because it will make her ill. So my hiatus will probably be a little bit longer than expected. I also move in March is is only 5 mths away! Yes I am having mild panic attacks over these.

Anyways enough about me lets get on with the RAK.

This month I sent Montana (though I had issues getting the right wish list – seriously don’t know what I was looking at!) Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson. I look forward to seeing what Montana thinks of this novel.

Montana sent me Origin by  Jessica Khoury. Canada Post is being slow with bringing me my book Sad smile.

An Update on Why You May Not See Me On The Blog For A Bit…

Hey Everyone,

How are you all doing? Excited for Halloween? I know I am. I am being Katniss. What are you being?

So I’ve been avoiding writing this blog post for awhile now and mostly because it breaks my heart and I wish I didn’t have to but I do.

I will be taking a break from blogging for a next little bit. The reasons…well there are 2 main reasons.

1) I have been extremely busy with school. I’m wrapping up my degree this year (yay!). Hoping to be down by next August. The exams are major exams that I only have 3 attempts to pass otherwise they say “Bye choose a new career” Yeah it sucks and causes a lot of stress

2) If you following me on Twitter or my personal Facebook page then you already know this but….last month my mom was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer (or 2 depending what research papers you read). Anyways last Wednesday she went for surgery for treatment and I have become the “mom” of the house. So I am now in charge of making sure my step dad, mom, sis, boyfriend and myself have breakfast, lunch and dinner, make sure chores are done and that nobody dies on my watch. Believe me it’s a hard freaking job and moms are amazing. I totally ain’t ready for kids.

So for these 2 reasons I am taking a break from reviewing. I just don’t want to additional stress of having to read and review certain novels when I have more important real life things to focus on. I will still post update posts, random reviews and still do RAK (depending on funds) but I just won’t be regularly posting…..not that I ever did in the “school months” as much as I tried. I just wanted to let everyone know that I haven’t forgotten about you.

If I you sent me a review request anywhere between Nov 2011 and June 2012 I have emailed you and made arrangements. If you didn’t receive an email from me it could be 1 of 2 reasons. I may have deleted your email by accident or I have read your novel and just need to write up a review, but please email me again so we can work something out as I feel horrible for accepting your novel to review and may not ever get the chance to review it.

Until next time.

Review: Happy Birthday to You by Brain Rowe

"Newlyweds Cameron and Liesel Martin aren't able to celebrate their wedding bliss for long. Not only is Liesel unexpectedly pregnant... they're also facing the end of humanity!
Liesel's evil witch sister Hannah has cast a spell to make all humans on Earth age a whole year with every day. It's up to Cameron and Liesel to stop her... and save the world! Who will survive? And who will perish?
Here it is at last... the third and final epic chapter of the Birthday trilogy... Happy Birthday to You!" Excerpt and book cover from Brian’s website.

HBTY wraps up the Birthday series by Brain Rowe. I felt that HBTY was the best novel in the series. There was a lot of action and a lot of soul searching for both Cameron and Liesel. The ending was not what I was expecting it made me bawl my eyes out and it was extremely intense. I wasn’t sure what was going to happen or if the world was going to be saved which I liked because it was a surprise ending. Brian wrote the story through the eyes of characters that were seen throughout the series and how their last days were going. Every time that Brian focused on a character from Cameron’s or Liesel’s life the end of that chapter had me crying. If you’re going to read HBTY make sure you have a box of Kleenex beside you – you will need it.

4.5 out of 5

Today I have the honor of sharing an Exclusive excerpt from Circle of Light by Jennifer Delucy. The Light Series is one of my favorites and I hope you all enjoy the excerpt.

The Great William and Christain Debate (may contain spoilers)

And now for the exclusive excerpt (I feel so honored!) and giveaways!

Excerpt

“It’s more storage, mainly some statues and holy items.”

Now that she mentioned it, I could see, upon looking closely, the extension of a life-sized, ivory white hand at the edges of the darkness. I shuddered. The rest of the statue was hidden.

“Well, let’s inspect, then,” Clara said. “Sister Gloria, can we take it from here?”

The nun raised an eyebrow. “I don’t know…”

“Please, Glor?” Paul added. “These things can get tricky sometimes.”

Sister Gloria watched us sternly for a moment before nodding. “All right. Try not to leave any evidence behind okay? I’ll be in the teacher’s lounge grading papers.”

“We’ll do our best,” I assured her.

Once she was gone I looked at Paul. “Listen I have kind of a phobia of statues. Must have been all those Virgin Marys bleeding tears when I was growing up. So let’s get in and out, please.”

“Can we produce some lights?” Judy Lynn requested, looking surprisingly nervous for a woman of her importance.

“No problem,” Paul said. “Go for it.”

She threw out her energy at once and lit half the space in a yellow-white haze. Stowed to the left and right were several plaster statues. I recognized the one with its hand extended as Saint Anthony. It was painted, but the color had faded with time, and there was a bird perched on the finger that was almost completely white now. The statue to the right had its back facing us, but I suspected it was a Virgin Mary that had never been painted to begin with. Behind these were others of varying sizes, the largest a solemn Christ with an open, bleeding heart, and then Saint Theresa, who smiled like a Mona Lisa from the dark recessed corner, her necklace of roses giving her identity away. Connie had loved Saint Theresa. Right now, I wasn’t such a fan.

“Yikes,” Paul said.

“Well, this is…yeah.” I said. “Let’s just see what we can draw ou—”

“Lil!” William spoke too late as something painfully heavy clamped down on my shoulder. I lurched forward and turned around. “Shit!” My voice came out in a squeak at the sight of Saint Theresa frozen in an angry smile and partially hunched in a stalking position, hand frozen where it had molded itself to my shoulder. “Are you serious?” I said to everyone.

“My God,” Judy Lynn said, practically hiding behind Paul.

“There’s absolutely no…no paranormal justification for…” I stuttered. “For this.”

William said, “Sweetheart, there is. We just haven’t figured it out yet.”

“But this is ridicul—Judy Lynn, watch out!” She jumped away on instinct, just in time to avoid the hand of Christ taking her head off her shoulders.

Paul was on high alert, scanning the area defensively, and I collected myself to speak through my shaking. “Okay. Okay, whoever you are, whatever you are, we realize that you’re messing with us,” I announced, noting Clara’s face turn panicked. “I know you’re—”

“Lily…” Clara said, pointing behind me, and I spun to face the Saint Theresa statue. It was straightened up and glaring down at me.

“I’ll crush your skull,” the statue said, her ceramic lips clicking together bizarrely to match the gravel of her voice.

“What the hell are you?” I managed.

“I’ll bite straight through your bone!” she snarled, lunging for me, but William’s repelling skills sent the statue smashing into the wall behind it, the ceramic crumbling and powdering into a white cloud.

We had little recovery time. There came a sound like cracking stone, and I noted that the Virgin Mary, the one facing away from us, had turned its head to look straight at me. Her expression turned from sad to maniacal, and she opened her mouth wide. With surprising speed for something made of cement, a long, white tongue shot out of the gaping hole and I ducked out of the way. Judy Lynn wasn’t fast enough, though, and the hardened tongue wrapped itself around her hair, knocking her off her feet and dragging her toward the statue.

Since I was prepared this time, I tried to well up some fear or anger to repel the statue, but to my dismay, nothing happened. I concentrated harder, cursing out loud and staring at the statue with a vengeance, but I still couldn’t repel the damned thing.

Judy Lynn, who was now struggling to rip her hair free, took note of my failed attempt, and with a small cry she repelled the statue herself. Unfortunately, she lost a clump of her mane in the process.

“What in the hell happened, Ms. Hunt?” she cried angrily.

“I don’t know!” I said. “I tried!”

“Maybe you aren’t as advanced as your people think!” she raged. “Perhaps you’re too distracted by—”

“Shit!” I shouted, raising both hands toward the advancing figure of Christ. It exploded into pieces immediately, causing everyone to duck and cover.

“Nice once, Lil,” Paul offered, coughing through the ceramic dust.

Judy Lynn looked absolutely livid. “Well, it seems your abilities have returned.”

Review: Circle of Light by Jennifer Delucy + Giveaway

Empath and Pathcrosser to the dead, Lillian Hunt has finally come into her own as a Sentient being. All seems well in her brave new world...that is, until a tragic turn sends her tight-knit Sentient group on a rescue mission through lore-infested Europe. Their goal is to save the love of Lily's life—vampire Sentient, William Maddox—from both the prejudice of their own society and the dark intentions of ancient vampires. But how will they keep hope alive, even as time runs out?

Circle of Light is a brilliant finale to The Light Series. DeLucy once again delivers gripping paranormal encounters, irresistible character interactions, and beautiful testaments to the power of pure, unselfish love—but it all burns at a higher intensity in this concluding adventure. Readers will come away from Circle of Light with a satisfying sense of closure…although certain Sentients may be less than happy with their ever after.

Circle of Light wraps up the Lights Series perfectly. The ending was amazing and has the opportunity for more stories to come from the series or more Maddox. Circle of Light was filled with action - there was never a dull moment. There were new characters introduced – some that I hated! Jennifer wrote them perfectly to get that reaction out of me. The sex scenes in Circle of Light weren’t as sexy as the first two novels were. But that’s okay as we got to see the more “aww” romantic and protective sides of both William and Christian that made me gush. Without giving too much of the story away I felt that Circle of Light was just the beginning of the characters new lives. There was so much that happened with William and Lily’s and Christian and Nicole’s relationship that filled me with happiness. I was glad to learn that Jennifer didn’t break the couples up. Overall, this series is amazing and each and every one of you needs to pick up the novels! I will be the first to jump for joy if Jennifer says she will continue the series or write a spinoff maybe on Anna/Trina?? Pretty please Jennifer!!!

Special thank to Jennifer and Traci for providing me an ARC for review.

Smart Chicks Kick It–2012 in EDMONTON!

Poster taken from The Smart Chicks website: http://www.smartchickskickit.com/downloads.html

I was so excited to hear that the Smart Chicks Kick It Tour was coming to Edmonton. Several months ago when the tour was first announced I woke up and started scrolling through Facebook and I noticed Margaret Stohl’s FB status was I’m going to <insert city>, <insert city>, Edmonton…. *Cue Cassay squeal* I also logged onto Twitter to see multiple @ posts to me telling me who was all coming to Edmonton. I was so excited that running around my house yelling OMG GOD AUTHORS ARE COMING TO EDMONTON! I smacked my head with my cell phone. Yep I’m a klutz and it freaking hurt!

Anywho, I was lucky enough to get to attend this years event and I was lucky enough to join the Edmonton Book Bloggers group and a bunch of the ladies arrived early and saved us some spots in line. My journey started by heading to the buss stop to pick up a fellow blogger who came up from Calgary. It was amazing getting to know Jennifer of Misbehavin’ Librarian and I was honored to give her a ride to the event. We ladies started talking and the time flew by while we talked books and books to movies while we waited for the event to start. BTW there was a huge debate on JCB being a good Jace for the City of Bones movies on FB and it did come up again in line…..seriously he isn’t that bad ladies! Smile with tongue out

Anywho, the authors finally came out and talked/answers questions from fans. I was listening  so closely that I forgot to take pictures!

I would like to thank Kelly Armstrong and Melissa Marr for putting together the Smart Chicks Kick It event and Chapters Westside for hosting! You did an amazing job keeping the lines organized and talked with your customers as we waited in line. That was very cool of you.

Here are the pictures I took from the event.

This is the group of Bloggers that showed up! I’m the one with my eyes closed. I’m so lame. Make sure you show them some love – you can find the directory here.

Here is Melissa Marr, Kelley Armstrong, Beth Revis and Ally Condie.

This is me and Ally Condie. Ally is super nice. I blanked out on what to talk to her about I felt bad but I was super shy to meet her.

IMG_1488

This is me and Beth Revis. I got to meet Beth in Vancouver and I got both of Beth’s books signed already so I picked up a copy for a friend of mine. Beth is super nice and I felt easier talking to her because I met her before. She also has double jointed shoulders.

This is me and Charles de Lint. Too bad I wasn’t blinking as well we would be matching. Hehe. I share a name with his niece! Super cool.

IMG_1490

This is me and the lovely Melissa Marr. Melissa is amazing - I <3 her so much. I waited in line an additional 2 hours to get the rest of my Wicked Lovely series signed. We talked about her delicious breakfast in Edmonton that morning. She had what sounded like the most yummiest pancakes ever! I don’t do pancakes for supper but I kind of wanted to have pancakes when I got home.

Me and the amazing Margaret Stohl (who makes my day at these signings with her witty comments that crack me up) and the LEGEND….wait for it DARY! Veronica Roth. I don’t really remember if I said anything but Thank You to Veronica but it was great to met her and I was totally start struck!

IMG_1493

Me and Kelley Armstrong. I have been lucky enough to meet her 3 times and this time I tripped over a mic wire and backed up into the stairs and fell over. I was sooo embarrassed! Apparently I was just that excited to meet Kelley again that I made a fool of myself. I am also not to sure what I am looking at but Kelley looks amazing! I love her teal blouse.

Those are my pictures! I had a blast I got to know some fellow bloggers that live near me. Who would have thought? Had some great chats in line with Ambur from Burning.x.Impossibly.x.Bright while we waited in line a 2nd time to see Kelly and Melissa again. Well worth the wait.

I also got to witness a 9 or 10 year old boy get his copy of Divergent signed and he had a smile from ear to ear just getting the chance to talk to Veronica. Witnessing that made it worth standing in line for those additional hours.

Thank you again to Chapters Westside and Indigo Green Room!
