Notice:

As of June 9, 2012 I will no longer be accepting e-books for review. This is due to the overwhelming
demand of reviews, work and night classes taking up a lot of my spare time. It
is taking me several months to read and post reviews therefore until “my to be
reviewed list” is smaller I will no longer accept any more e-books for review.
I am extremely sorry.

Review: Inheritance by Christopher Paolini

Inheritancecover
Long months of training and battle have brought victories and hope, but they have also brought heartbreaking loss. And still, the real battle lies ahead: they must confront Galbatorix. When they do, they will have to be strong enough to defeat him. And if they cannot, no one can. There will be no second chances. Excerpt and book cover from Alagaesia.com.
OH. MY. GOODNESS! This was a fantastic end to a magical series! Each page of the almost 900 pages left me wanting more. There was not a point in the book that I got bored and wanted to put the book down. I got impatient with myself for reading so darn slow and not finishing the novel in record speed. I had to stop myself from reading the end before everything else. My favorite character in the series is Angela. I was hoping to confirm my theory (and my moms) of her but it left me unsatisfied and I am left with more questions about her. Btw my theory is that she is Eragon’s mom. Each action scene was filled with intense action I was on a warrior kick while reading it pretending I was on the battlefields. Yes, I am a nerd. So :P! Yes – my BF thought I had lost my mind and was going crazy with all my make believe battlefields roars and charges. If you haven’t picked up the Eragon Series you must go to a book store now and grab yourself a copy.

Review: The Chosen Historian by Randy Ertz

cover
Evin Driscol is not just a historical writer but a vampire who writes on supernaturals and their impact on human history. He is loved by some, hated by others, and tolerated by most. Though sharing knowledge of his own kind is pushing the fine line, Evin continues to write about supernatural history while exploring his own. Evin is ending his “Vampires and the Roaring Twenties” book tour in Chicago, his hometown. Just as things seem to be falling into place for Evin, his life is turned upside down… Excerpt and book cover from Randi’s website.
The Chosen Historian does have a bit of a Trueblood feel with the vampires being known to the public and drinking synthetic blood. Books with a historical background always surprise me that I actually enjoy them. I’m not much for history but the way it is written in this novel kept my interest. I liked learning about Evin’s history. It was interesting and well thought out. I wasn’t quite sure on why Evin and his sister were different then most vampires but with the cliff hanger ending I think I’m pretty sure I know what the deal is….but I am probably wrong. There was the perfect amount of romance for the book and it didn’t feel at all awkward. I’m looking forward to reading book 2.
Special thanks to Randi and her team at TLT for going the extra mile in sending me a copy to Canada. Also, thanks for the personal call it was pretty darn cool of your Randi.

Review: Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

LOLAStephaniePerkins
In this companion novel to Anna and the French Kiss, two teens discover that true love may be closer than they think.
Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn't believe in fashion . . . she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit—more sparkly, more fun, more wild—the better. But even though Lola's style is outrageous, she's a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood.
When Cricket—a gifted inventor—steps out from his twin sister's shadow and back into Lola's life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door. Excerpt and book cover from Stephanie’s website.
Stephanie Perkins has changed my thoughts on contemporary novels. I normally stick to paranormal over real life BUT everyone loves Anna and the French Kiss. I decided to take a chance and I loved it. I couldn’t wait for Lola and it wasn’t a disappointment. Lola reminds me of my sister who also loves fashion she’s not as extreme as Lola but I saw similarities. I love love love Cricket and I freaking despise Max. I loves how Anna and St. Clair were added to the story I wasn’t expecting to see the,. I laugh, I cried and I felt like I was the one on a rollercoaster ride of emotions over Lolas. Besides Max I liked all the characters. They had the perfect impact on Lola even if it was for a page or just a sentence.

Review: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

AnnaFrenchKissSmall
Anna was looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. So she's less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris—until she meets √Čtienne St. Clair. Smart, charming, beautiful, √Čtienne has it all . . . including a serious girlfriend.
But in the City of Light, wishes have a way of coming true. Will a year of romantic near-misses end with their long-awaited French kiss? Stephanie Perkins keeps the romantic tension crackling and the attraction high in a debut guaranteed to make toes tingle and hearts melt. Excerpt and book cover from Stephanie’s website.
I don’t normally read contemporary novels but I decided to take a chance on Anna and the French Kiss because everyone seems to love the novel and I can see why. It was fantastic it made me laugh and cry. As much as I love St. Clair I do want to smack him across the head has hard as I can. Stephanie’s writing sucks you in and everything Anna feels you feel. When she was angry or sad I was 10 times angrier or sad. If you’re a contemporary lover you need to pick up this series if you haven’t yet and if you don’t like contemporary you should reconsider it and use this novel as the foot step into that door.

Announcement

It pains me to write this blog post but it must be done.

As of today, I will no longer accepting e-book requests.

My list has gotten out of hand and it is adding extra stress to my life that I just don’t want to have. This year I am trying to wrap up my schooling so I can be done with it and a lot of my extra time is going into studying. Also, my personal reading pile has gotten out of hand as well and I would like to slowly get that pile under control. I had a list of reviews that needed to be read and reviewed but someone must have thrown it out and today I went through and made a new one and looking back at some of the dates on the emails I have authors that requested a review back in August – October 2011. So that means it has been almost a year since I have had their novel and I feel horrible about that. Thankfully the authors have been extremely understanding and I extremely appreciated this.

If you have sent a review request in before today. I have emailed you if I will be added your novel to the list. If you didn’t receive an email from me unfortunately I have decided not to review your novel – but have added it to my “look at when your not your crazy busy” list for the future.

Again, I apologize for any inconveniences I have caused but I appreciate your support and love. I will still be able to do author guest posts and book promos for any blog tours. I just will not be able to accept novels for review.

I will post again when I decide to open up reviews to e-books again.

Thank you so much for the support everyone.

Review: All Spell Breaks Loose by Lisa Shearin

All-Spell-Breaks-Loose-final-cover-186x300

My name is Raine Benares—and it sucks to be me right now. I’m a seeker who managed to “find” the Saghred, a soul-stealing stone that gave me unlimited power I never asked for or wanted. Now I’ve managed to lose the rock—and the magic it gave me—to a power-hungry goblin dark mage whose main goals are my death and world domination.
I’m still bonded to the Saghred, and the dark mage can’t use the stone as long as I’m alive. If he kills me and gains control of the Saghred, he’ll become an evil demigod with the seven kingdoms at his mercy. This is more than enough incentive to plan a little trip to the goblin capital of Regor with a small band of good friends, not-so-good friends, and one outright enemy. Don’t ask.
All we need to do is destroy the Saghred, kill the mage, and put a renegade goblin prince on the throne. Did I mention I’ll be doing that with no magic? Excerpt and book cover from Lisa’s website.
As some of you may know Lisa is one of my favorite authors. I love her Raine Benares series and I have been patiently waiting for the final installment of the Saghred story line. Lisa wrapped the story line up perfectly. It left me feeling extremely happy and left it open for the series to continue or have a spinoff but didn’t end in a way that there has to be another novel. All Spell Breaks Loose is full of action and kept me on the seat of my chair. Lisa’s humor is at its best in this installment. The last few chapters had me in tears laughing so hard. There is a scene near the end of the book where Raine and Tam’s old teacher Kesyn have a moment where they are in quite the predicament and Kesyn humor just adds so much to the scene I loved it! Kesyn was one of my favorite new characters in the story he had so many one liners that crack me up. There wasn’t a lot of Talon in the story but when he did show up he made sure it counted. Mychael and Tam were full of sexiness during the story, this one had a bit less of a romancing it in but that was okay the action scenes made up for the lack of Raine and Mychael hook-ups. Overall, the story is just PERFECT! If you’re a fan of the series you’re going to love All Spell Breaks Loose I am sure of it. I’m sad that the characters are taking a break for the time being so Lisa can work on her new super secret project which I can’t wait for. It will be torture until I find out more about the her new projects.
